Directed by Justin Webster, the production, a joint project between the United States of America, Colombia and Spain, explores the life of Colombian Nobel Laureate Gabriel Garcia Márquez from his humble beginnings until he became one of the most famous Latin American writers.
The documentary presents how the political struggles of Latin America in the 70s and 80s, influenced García Marquez’ work creating amazing masterpieces such as “One Hundred Years of Solitude” but also strong testimonials of Colombia’s contemporary history in ¨News of a Kidnapping” (Noticia de un Secuestro).
Testimonials by family members, friends, co-workers, journalists and writers and politicians such as Bill Clinton, highlight the life of the Colombian writer and explore the significance of García Márquez journalistic writings, his personality, and his perception of reality.
The documentary “GABO, The magic of reality” has received awards at the recent International Film Festival of Cartagena de Indias and at the Latin American Film Festival of New York.

Dirigida por Justin Webster, la producción, un proyecto conjunto entre los Estados Unidos de América, Colombia y España, explora la vida del Premio Nobel colombiano Gabriel García Márquez desde sus humildes comienzos hasta que se convirtió en uno de los escritores latinoamericanos más famosos.
El documental presenta cómo las luchas políticas de América Latina en los años 70 y 80 influyeron en el trabajo de García Márquez al crear increíbles obras maestras como “Cien años de soledad”, pero también fuertes testimonios de la historia contemporánea de Colombia en “Noticias de un secuestro” (Noticia de un secuestro).
Los testimonios de familiares, amigos, compañeros de trabajo, periodistas, escritores y políticos, como Bill Clinton, destacan la vida del escritor colombiano y exploran el significado de los escritos periodísticos de García Márquez, su personalidad y su percepción de la realidad.
El documental “GABO, La magia de la realidad” ha recibido premios en el reciente Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena de Indias y en el Festival de Cine Latinoamericano de Nueva York.
